Nur langsam gewöhnen sich die Augen an die Dunkelheit im Ausstellungsraum und so dauert es einige Zeit, bis das rhythmische Aufflackern eines mumifizierten Totenkopfes an der Wand erkennbar wird. Das Bild entzieht sich jedoch unserer näheren Betrachtung; nicht nur, weil es bloß schwach in diffusem Licht aufleuchtet und wir nicht viel mehr als undeutliche Umrisse wahrnehmen. Bevor wir es genauer ansehen können, ist es auch schon wieder verschwunden.

One’s eyes only slowly adapt themselves to the darkness of the exhibition space, and so it is a while before the rhythmic fl aring up of the image of a mummifi ed skull becomes discernible on the wall. However, the image evades closer examination—not only because it only faintly fl ashes up in a diff use light and we perceive scarcely more than vague contours. Before we can take a better look at it, it has already disap- peared.
