"Charybdis und Skylla" ist wenn nicht im Titel, zumindest in Bild und Ton sehr abstrakt. Zwei Geschwindigkeiten, zwei Richtungen stehen sich gegenüber: eine Seite langsam und horizontal, die andere schnell und vertikal. Charybdis und Skylla bedrohen die Schiffe (die Zuschauer), die durch die Straße von Messina fahren wollen. Der Ton lockt angenehm, reich und verleitet zum Verweilen. In dieser Installation stehen die Eindrücke von "rasend viel erleben" zu "verschwindend wenig passiert" im permanenten Wechsel. Will man sie ganz erfassen, muß sich das Auge (und das Ohr) sowohl auf das Langsame wie auf das Schnelle immer wieder neu einstellen.
As soon as one enters the exhibition space, one is surrounded by curious droning and pounding machines that lean toward the viewer, that swing back and forth in the invariably same, dull way without us being able to recognize whether they have gone out of control or whether they are serving their intended purpose. However, in view of the cold, rhythmic pounding, which fills the space and makes it appear as if these apparatuses will never be able to be shut down, and of the huge elements reminiscent of buttons that time and again bow before us in an almost taunting way, the vague suspicion soon crops up that we can-not be quite sure about how things stand and that we have perhaps long since ceased to be “masters of the situation” (if we ever were to begin with), but rather slaves to our own technological achievements.
